Originally published in 1999 by Two Bytes Publishing Ltd., Stratford, Connecticut, this 189 Page hardback book retraces the steps of the Clay and McAllister families of Bryan County Georgia during the Plantation Years. The Clay and McAllister families were two aristocratic planter families, linked by marriage, during the heyday of the "Rice Kingdom" in tidewater Georgia. The book is broken into three different sections: 1) family background including detailing of the rice and cotton production; 2) Civil War letters and journals; concluding with 3) post-Civil War narrative. During the war, members from both families fought for the Confederacy. Fort McAllister was built on part of the property named after Colonel McAllister along the Ogeechee River. Colonel McAllister served in the 7th Georgia Cavalry until he was killed in the battle for Trevellian's Station. At the height of the war, Sherman's troops overtook Fort McAllister and marched on Savannah. Suggested retail price is $ 25.95. This copy autographed by the author can be yours for $ 20.00
